So welcome to the first post on the new Namazoku website, I have been meaning to start this blog project for a good 3+ yrs at this point. The idea was to publish something to enjoy and celebrate the homebrew DIY car builds of the UK.
SO without further a do, I received a late night message on a Wednesday from my friend Dale [of OnaMission Honda Breaker fame] to tell me that Rus, from HondR was organising a little meet and wanted to know if I could come? Oh man, the timing was awful as my car [Honda Civic K20 Track Car] was laid up on a VTEC ban due to a slowing failing crank pulley.
I already had the parts in a box on my desk at work, but did I have the time… The meet was planned for that coming Saturday, I was too busy, and the garage that I had lined up to do it for me was also busy; so I grew a pair, and got it on the ramp in my lunch break on the Friday (a very slow drive going in). Whip it up in the air, remove one plastic trim from the wheel arch, bob the locking tool in, and boshed it off. [it didn’t fight too bad either]. New pulley straight on with accompanying fresh bolt and we are good to in 35mins all in 🙂 PS: 181 ftlbs is a LOT.
CAR FIXED = VTEC BAN LIFTED!
Off to the meet we go, cool little drive down to Kingsley Cafe on the A40 near Witney. The car behaved impeccably, many VTEC’s were tested on the way, we were late getting there, so rolled up to a load of people already there. Found my way to a spot and got the bonnet up [as you do].
The venue looks like it could have been an old little chef site in times gone by so its bang on the roadside next to an Esso filling station (ideal for that 99ron fuel). Its a really lovely little venue, looks pretty fresh for a meet location, very new looking marquee etc outside, a la Caffeine & Machine, cool big screen TV, wicked looking bar stands on the edge looking back into the tent.
Really great vibe inside, lighting made it very cosy, cool little tuk tuk pizza wagon just chilling in the edge by the exposed catering kitchen in a container 🙂
The food was absolutely incredible, to the point where my son announced it was the best bacon roll he’s ever had! Trust me, this really is the highest of accolades. However there is one thing to note, it’s very expensive indeed, for example 2 loaded rolls and 2 slices of cake cost in excess of £30.00 at the time writing!!!!
Time for the cars!
Not an enormous meet, but it was more quality over quantity, organised by long term Honda nerd, Rus of HondR, it was awesome to see some really cool builds all lined up together on the gravel parking area to the side of the cafe.
Roll call to start
Dale and Amy from OnaMission Honda specialists with their K24 ITB’d EG Civic and Mugen Integra DC5, two very cool cars which I will no doubt do separate posts for at some point.
Rus had two of his own cars there, the mad little track Civic with its D16 Turbo, single jingle motor making around 260bhp, and a very clean mostly original Honda Orthia, I failed to get full details on any of these as I was just there to chat and have a good time, BUT the front lip on this thing has been keeping me awake at night, genuine GREDDY lip is FIRE!
@ragnar_ep3 was there with his stunning Red EP3 Civic Type R. Along with several others. I even bumped into Olly Ross aswell.
This lip on the HondR Civic is an incredible thing in the flesh, super rare JDM loot this one. Car has all the right bits to be a great fun car, looks cool on the big Sparco rims.
This EP3 has been done very well indeed, its a really great mix of oldskool meets ‘newer school’ The Enkei rims and the front bumper really finish it off, dripping in carbon too.
A nice pair of FK8s with some spicy upgrades to complete the loop from the 90s to current day. Was cool to meet Leo and Ashleigh with the Pair of 6th Gen Civic’s and just nerd out with tons of Honda chat 🙂
Well thats it for this one, off to Caffeine & Machine in the morning so will try and do a better job of getting the details and names/insta tags of cool things I see.
Peace out,
The Captain.
